Privacy policy
How the ETON Control Center app and the website etondsp.app handle your data. In short: the app needs no user account, contains no advertising, no analytics or tracking services and sends no crash reports. What it processes stays almost entirely on your device.
2. Scope
This policy covers the "ETON Control Center" app for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS (on Android devices it is shown under the name "EtonDSP"), its browser version on etondsp.app, and the website etondsp.app with its download portal. The app sets up ETON amplifiers.
3. Data that stays on your device
- Amplifier data: model, serial number, firmware version, presets and settings, exchanged between the app and the amplifier over USB, Bluetooth or the amplifier's own Wi-Fi. Backups and exports are saved only where you choose.
- Microphone and audio input: for measurements (real-time analysis, tuning, level and delay measurement) the app analyses the signal of a measuring microphone or of the amplifier's USB audio input on your device. Measurement files exist only if you save them.
- Bluetooth: to find amplifiers the app scans for nearby Bluetooth devices. Device names and identifiers are only shown and used to connect. On Android the scan does not determine your location.
- Local network: amplifiers with their own Wi-Fi are controlled directly on that network.
- App settings and downloaded firmware files are kept in the app's storage on your device.
Depending on the system the app asks for Bluetooth, microphone or audio recording, local network, USB and internet permissions, and on Android for a foreground service that keeps the connection to the amplifier. You can revoke these permissions in the system settings at any time; the related feature is then unavailable.
4. Updates and firmware from etondsp.app
The desktop app checks for a new version at start-up. The apps and the browser version download the list of released firmware and, when needed, firmware files from our server etondsp.app. A link in the setup wizard opens test signals on this site in your browser.
The server processes the technically necessary data: your IP address, date and time, the requested address and file, the amount of data, the status code and an identifier of the requesting software (user agent). No serial number or setting of your amplifier is sent.
Purpose: delivering updates and firmware securely and detecting faults and attacks. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in operating this delivery securely. Our hosting provider stores the IP address in its access logs only in shortened form and deletes the logs after eight weeks at the latest.
The server is operated for us by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany, as our processor under a contract according to Art. 28 GDPR. All connections use HTTPS. The app verifies firmware files against their checksum before use.
5. AI assistant (desktop app only, optional)
The desktop app contains an optional AI assistant. It works only if you open it, choose a provider and enter your own access: Anthropic ("Claude", by API key or through the Claude Code software), OpenRouter (by API key) or OpenAI (through the Codex software).
The app then sends your input and the settings and measurement data the assistant reads to answer directly to that provider. ETON does not receive this data. The provider's privacy terms and your agreement with the provider apply. The providers are based in the USA, outside the EU; you initiate that transfer yourself with your own access.
The app stores your API key and the conversation only locally in the app's storage on your device, unencrypted. Protect your device as you would for any other access key.
6. Website etondsp.app and portal
- Server logs: as described in section 4, also for visits to the website.
- Cookies: the portal sets a session cookie (
PHPSESSID), deleted when you close the browser, needed for sign-in, the language setting and the protection of forms. If you choose a language, it is kept for one year in a cookie (portal_lang). Both are strictly necessary (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). There are no other cookies, no tracking and no external fonts or scripts. - Accounts for dealers and staff: user name, display name, password (stored only as a hash), roles and a log of sign-ins and changes made in the portal, to manage software releases. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (access at your request) and (f) (traceability of changes). When an account is withdrawn we deactivate it; on request we delete it completely. We keep the change log for as long as the portal is operated, so that it stays traceable who released which software.
- Browser version of ETON Control Center (Chrome or Edge): it connects to your amplifier directly through your browser's interfaces (Web Serial, WebUSB, Web Bluetooth); you choose which device it may use in the browser's dialog. From etondsp.app it loads only itself, the firmware list and firmware files (section 4). Your amplifier's data does not leave the browser. It keeps its settings in your browser's local storage, not on our server. The AI assistant is not part of it.
- Measurement viewer (signed-in staff only): a file opened there is processed only in your browser and not uploaded.
7. Sharing
We do not sell data, do not share it for advertising and do not build profiles. The only recipient is our hosting provider as processor, and for the AI assistant the provider you choose (section 5).
8. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). Contact us at security@eton-caraudio.com or at the address in section 1.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Ours is the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
Data on your device is removed by uninstalling the app or clearing its data in the system settings. Saved backup and measurement files you delete yourself.
9. Changes
We update this policy when the app or the law changes. The version published at etondsp.app/privacy applies.
